A bundle of contradictions tied up in a knot of absolutely meaningless drivel

This excellent piece by Leon H. Wolf is crossposted en toto from RedState.com. I'll simply add this comment: How in the world can people watch (and listen to) this, and actually think this guy is a gifted public speaker?

You know, I have studied four languages besides English, including two that aren't spoken anywhere on Earth anymore, so I'm generally of the opinion that learning foreign languages is useful. We're teaching our son some Spanish as he goes along, and he enjoys learning it.

That said...

The above video is absolutely made of awesome. It's got so much awesome in there that I'm having a hard time sorting it all out. Is my favorite part:

1. The part where Obama admits that he "doesn't get" the drive for English only?
2. The part where he states, immediately afterwards, that one shouldn't worry about the immigrants, because "they'll learn English" (seriously, because no one has ever encountered immigrants who can't speak English)?
3. The part where he proceeds to berate American citizens for not learning Spanish (specifically)?
4. The part where he says that he's embarrassed by Americans, especially compared to the French?
5. The part where he relates a story that is familiar to all Americans who have visited France, and takes the side of the French? Or,
6. The part where all the Obama supporters enjoy a good, hearty laugh at the expense of Americans who can't speak French. A group which, apparently, includes Barack Obama. But that doesn't make this video any less awesome.

I'm having trouble deciding. What's your favorite part?

Amazing. And people are actually going to vote for this guy.

Both John McCain and Barack Obama have been invited to Debate in Deer Creek Illinois on September 21, 2008 in Deer Creek Illinois during the Celebration of Fire and Rescue Workers Everywhere, and the Deer Creek Cruising Classics Car Show. This Celebration has been going on since September 22nd, 2002, having been organized to raise funds for Volunteer Fire and Rescue Workers Everywhere and is held on the third weekend of each year, approximately 11 days after the anniversary's of 911.
We have CHALLANGED both Barack Obama and John McCain to attend this event to HONOR VOLUNTEER FIRE AND RESCUE WORKERS EVERYWHERE and to possibly debate. The location is in the rural town of Deer Creek Illinois, in the Heart of Illinois, between Peoria and Bloomington. Supporters from all over Central Illinois would come to the small town Celebration, and this event would bring HONOR to those who struggle in small rural Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company's all over this great nation.
What better way for Presidential Candidates to come together.

Definitely the part where he says we (Americans) should learn to speak a second language . . . "specifically Spanish".

Yes, it is embarrassing when a military member expects, stress expects, a German national to speak English in the German's home country. It speaks volumes of the arrogance of that American service member. For instance, like the folks that sued a German club owner for denying them entry. Of course the German judge threw the case out of court.

HEY! That's kind of the whole point to English first isn't it! This is our home and English is the native language! Get the F-bomb over it.

The English, uncommitted immigrant and hyphenated American issues aren't new. Teddy Roosevelt addressed this in his time only it was aimed at Irish, Germans, and Italians. But they did have backbone in his time. A feature the modern American seems to be missing.

Assimiliate or migrate . . . right back to where you came from. We, Americans, have no reason to hang our heads in shame over expecting common courtesy from those immigrating to our Country.

By-the-way, this applies to those fleeing the coast cultures for the safety and sanity of Red America. Leave your baggage and "when I lived in"(s) at the door.

"Amazing. And people are actually going to vote for this guy."

That's right. Millions of people. In fact, probably more than will vote for John McCain as of this point in time. So maybe there's something wrong with your analysis. Or is this perhaps the only time you've listened to Obama speak? How about posting video of McCain's recent blank (or cagey) fumbling response to a question about Viagra, birth control and insurance? Or does he get to have some off moments that don't count for anything?

Obama shows his skill to control the campaign discussion. Obama doesn’t care a wit about learning Spanish. He wants to pander to Hispanics while professing a desire for improved communication with Europeans. He simultaneously deflects debate from energy policy, Iran, immediate withdrawal from Iraq, real improvements in US education, school vouchers, relief from the alternate minimum, AMT, etc.

Obama is slippery and uses illusionary problems to distract attention from his real agenda and record.

Obama want to take over the title as King of Flip Flop from John Kerry. Sean Hannity has listed 15 fli flop between the primary and now. Actually if u look at all his major sponsors and advisors they are all white and I believe Obama is a stogee for Ted Kenndey, Al Gore, John Kerry ( all enemies of Bill CLinton), Tom Daschle and George Soros. Obama stutters without a teleprompter and advisor behind him, so challenge him to a town hall debate and he will fumble. McCain shd defend his change his energy policy as a change of strategy because price of oil has triple from 5 yrs ago ( this is not flipflop, but just being smart and forward looking. Attack Obama excuse that drilling will take more than 5 yrs to see the oil supply by replying forcefully that if this is the attitude and reason then forever we will not see any discovery or invention in this world because everything takes time to develop and invent like medicine, technology, etc etc.. Basedon Obama argument, we will all go back to 20th century living standard and there will be no improvement in standard of living. A vote for Obama is a vote for Osama since the democrats have always wanted to surrender and pullout against war on terrorism. How can the military accept a defeatist president as commander in chief.

Hello Folks

Barack Obama may show up in Deer Creek Illinois on September 20th or 21st in the hopes of Debating John McCain at the Celebration of Fire and Rescue Workers Everywhere Festival.

But I highly doubt these "rumors" because no Presidential Candidate like Barack Obama would have the courage to walk into such a small rural community like Deer Creek Illinois. There is no reason to...well, except for the fact that is where simple people have been coming together since the 1st anniversay of 911 to HONOR Volunteer Fire and Rescue Workers Everywhere by holding a Festival just about 11 days after the anniversaries of 911.

John McCain, well, he wouldn't dare show up unannounced even if Barack Obama did in fact show up willing to debate him on the simple streets of Deer Creek Illinois.

And in this simply man's opinion, until these individuals bring themselves down off their soap boxes and walk among simple downhome good neighbors, they will never fully understand rural America. They will never really be one of us, and shall remain just another politician.

Yes, people have "rumored" Barack Obama "may" stop by the Festival, but until I see him there, that is all they are, just rumors.
